Dispatch Chat Interface: A Complete Guide

Dispatch is a chat-based AI dispatcher built into TruckSmarter. Instead of searching through a load board, you describe what you need in plain language. Dispatch can find loads, answer freight questions, and take action on your behalf.

Dispatch is available to subscribers only. New users can try it free for 30 days.

Getting Started

Open the Dispatch tab in the app's bottom navigation, or tap on the "Dispatch" tile on the homescreen.

Already a Dispatch subscriber? Send a message or take any action in chat to accept the updated terms of service. That’s it—you’re in.

New to Dispatch? Complete the onboarding screens. When you’re finished, you'll land directly in chat.

Once you're in, tap on the initial suggested prompts to help you get started right away:

  • “Find me loads”: Kicks off a search using your recent searches. If you don't have any saved, a default search will walk you through your first one.

  • “Find me brokers”: Surfaces top active broker reps for a specific lane.

  • “What can you do?”: Shows the full list of things Dispatch can help with.

Finding Loads

Describe what you're looking for in plain language. For example:

“Looking for a load from Rockfield, IL to Santa Fe, NM. 53ft dry van, 40,000 lbs, $2.00/mile. No hazmat.”

The more detail you include upfront, the faster it can match you with the right loads.

You can specify:

  • Pickup date(s)

  • Pickup and destination location

  • Pickup and drop-off location radius

  • Minimum and maximum load price

  • Minimum rate per mile (RPM)

  • Minimum and maximum distance

  • Trailer type and length

  • Weight

  • Special load requirements

  • Brokers to exclude

Dispatch starts searching immediately and returns results within seconds. It will only ask follow-up questions if important information is missing. If nothing matches your criteria, it will also suggest alternatives to your current search.

Evaluating Loads

Once results come in, you can dig in before committing. Tap anywhere on the card to view expanded details, such as commodity, specific requirements, and broker contact. Only want loads that pick up after 10

You can also ask Dispatch to rank results or explain why certain loads stand out. You can also ask specific questions about a load, such as equipment requirements, pickup windows, strap counts, food-grade needs, and more.

If the answer isn't in the load details, Dispatch can call the broker to find out.

Taking Action: Booking, Calling, and Bidding

To start taking action, tap the checkbox on any load card to select it. Then either choose a suggested action or type your own instruction.

"Book it for $2,000," "Draft an email to the broker," "Call them and get the details," "Call and wait on hold for me," “Book the first one, but if that doesn’t work, book the second one.”

Dispatch will handle your request through the most effective method, whether that’s submitting directly through the broker’s system, placing a phone call, or drafting an email:

  • Direct bidding: available for select brokers. Requires connecting your credentials.

  • Phone call: Dispatch places the call and handles the back-and-forth. Before booking, it will transfer you in—it won’t complete the booking without you on the line.

  • Email draft: Dispatch writes the message. You review it and send it yourself.

Once the actions have gone through, you will see components to keep track of their status. If you no longer want us to work on certain loads, you can either cancel specific calls, or the whole group.

Once each batch is complete, you can tap back in to see the outcome of the action, as well as a brief summary of what happened.

Pro tip: Ask Dispatch to work on multiple loads at the same time. If your first choice falls through, you've already got backups in motion.

Managing Broker Relationships

You can ask about which brokers you’re eligible to work with, so you don’t have to tab away to check before actioning on a load.

If you ask for top broker representatives for specific lanes, Dispatch can show you the most active ones, along with their contact information, so that you can reach out and build relationships.

Background Monitoring

You don't have to stay in the app for Dispatch to keep working. Ask it to monitor a lane while you're driving or on a break:

"Let me know if anything good comes up on this lane for tomorrow."

"Find me something over $1,200."

Dispatch keeps searching and notifies you when it finds something worth your attention. You can also check the status of any active work in the Dispatch tasks menu, located at the top right hand corner of your chat.

Notifications

Dispatch will alert you when there is an update to share:

  • In the app: Updates appear as messages in chat, with the most urgent ones surfaced first.

  • Out of the app: Depending on urgency, you'll get a push notification, SMS, or a phone call. For example, if a broker has accepted your bid and needs you on the line right away, we will call you to transfer you into the call.

Your Conversation History

Each conversation is saved in a menu that you can access by tapping on the icon in the top left hand corner of chat, or by swiping left to right. Start a new chat anytime, or return to a previous thread to pick up where you left off.
